Health Science

Royal Valley High School’s Health Science class has heard from a variety of people with many different careers in the medical field through guest speakers who share their experiences, education, and advice.

So far this semester, students have heard from Jeff Mozeter (EMT & Nursing), Michelle Decker (Forensic Death Investigations), Claudia Owen (Pharmacist), and Chelli Shuster (Nurse). Each speaker discussed their journey into healthcare, the responsibilities of their jobs, and the many opportunities available for students who are interested in pursuing similar careers.

These speakers are helping students understand that the health field is much broader than just becoming a doctor or nurse. “Many times when students are asked about healthcare jobs, those are the only two they can name,” Mrs. Swank explained. “But there are so many different paths out there, and this class helps open their eyes to those possibilities.”

Upcoming speakers include James Keen (Chiropractor), Malori Henry (Massage Therapy), Shanna Martin, Rachel Boucher, Laura Douglas, and Hannah Stillwell (Counselors), Kortni Mitchell (Family Counseling), Kayla (EMT), Codi Garvey (Nursing), Katti Hale and Sydney Moss (CNA Program), Todd (Physical Therapy), Mandy Philips (Radiology), Jenni Stous (Speech Pathology), and Jeri Harvey (Medical Teaching).

The Health Science class is designed to give students hands-on exposure to the wide range of careers in healthcare. By learning directly from professionals, students have the chance to ask questions, make connections, and discover potential career paths they may want to pursue in the future.
