Hand washing lesson

This week at RVES, our school nurses, Maddin Lockwood and Jeff Moszeter, visited classrooms to teach an important lesson on hand washing. During each session, they explained what germs and bacteria are and how they can make us sick if we don’t wash our hands properly.

To demonstrate, students rubbed a special powder on their hands to represent germs. They were then divided into four groups: one group didn’t wash their hands, one used hand sanitizer, one rinsed with water only, and one washed with soap and water. Using a blacklight, students observed which method worked best for removing germs.

The results were clear—washing with soap and water is the most effective way to eliminate germs. Thanks to this hands-on activity, students left with a better understanding of why proper hand washing is so important for staying healthy.
