7th grade science

Mrs. Dressman and Ms. Baxter are teaming up to make learning truly come alive for their 7th grade students!

In ELA, students are exploring history and literature by studying Typhoid Mary and comparing her story to the novel Fever 1793. Next week, the classroom will transform into a courtroom where students will step into roles as district attorneys, public defenders, witnesses, jurors, and even the defendant herself. Using evidence from their reading, they’ll prepare arguments, ask questions, and defend their positions—all while sharpening their critical thinking and persuasive speaking skills.

Meanwhile, in Science, students experienced how diseases spread within a community through a hands-on demonstration. Each student began with a cup of “water,” one of which was secretly “tainted.” As they shared cups throughout class, the disease spread. At the end, an indicator revealed who had survived and who had not. Along the way, students learned key vocabulary about disease transmission and examined illnesses that shaped history.

By combining these experiences, students gained a deeper understanding of how literature, history, and science intersect. This collaboration between subjects not only strengthens text-based evidence and analytical skills but also brings learning to life in an engaging and memorable way.
