Recently, the RVHS yearbook students practiced how to design yearbook spreads—a tradition they do each year before starting their actual layouts. This activity serves as both a refresher for returning staff members and a creative introduction for new ones.

To make the lesson more engaging, students used food items to represent different elements of a spread. For example, graham crackers stood in for photos (allowing them to “resize” images), while Cheez-Its were used as captions placed beneath each “photo.” This hands-on approach helped students better understand how spreads are built.

Yearbook staff member Nalanie Kesler shared, “Doing this activity was helpful to visualize our spreads and will help us put them together in the future!”
