This week the 7th grade students completed their Kansas Counties Unit with a Quiz to see how many in their class could be the first to know exactly where the 105 counties in Kansas are located!!
In order to prepare for this, each 7th grade student selected a county and completed some research (Webquest) finding out information about their county like: year their county was established, the current population and compare to the population 10 years ago to determine if the population was increasing or shrinking and also why this might be, major tourist sites, whether their county is rural/urban/mixed, is there industry/agriculture/business or all and what, major university or post-secondary school, what town is the county seat located in, how the county got its name, and what is their county known or famous for.
Next, the students created their own Kansas County map and included all of their Webquest information in a picture on this county map.
To conclude our Kansas County Unit the students were challenged to learn all of the exact locations of the 105 counties in Kansas. We used a website: Kansas Counties Game in order to conduct our competition. There has definitely been a competitive spirit in the air for about the past week as we have been studying and working hard to know ALL 105 Kansas Counties!! Winners were determined for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each Kansas History class. First place to receive a $10 gift card to DQ, second place a $5 gift card to Sonic, and 3rd place a treat bag with a drink and a couple of snacks!!
