Students in Mrs. DelToro's Kansas History class recently completed an engaging unit on immigration, connection, and community.
Using Brad Herzog’s W is for Welcome: A Celebration of America's Immigrants, Alice Mead's Girl of Kosovo, and their Kansas Journey textbook, students looked beyond memorizing dates to examine why people move and how migration shapes local history.
During the unit, students engaged in key learning activities including:
Comparing 19th-century Croatian migration in Strawberry Hill to modern global events.
Analyzing historical cause-and-effect relationships.
Celebrating the diverse cultural contributions that shape Kansas today.
Through this unit, our students gained a deeper appreciation for the diverse stories and shared experiences that continue to shape the Royal Valley community.
