Indigenous Lit

Royal Valley High School is proud to announce the expansion of its Indigenous literature library, made possible through a $500 classroom grant from the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). To support her Indigenous Literature & Film elective class, Mrs. Switzky applied for the grant. She said, "I want to bring a wider range of Indigenous voices and perspectives to students, families, and the Royal Valley community."

The newly purchased books include poetry, memoirs, novels, children’s stories, and graphic novel collections by celebrated authors such as Joy Harjo, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Louise Erdrich, Eric Gansworth, and Angeline Boulley. The books (and some from Mrs. Switzky's personal library) will be displayed in the RVHS Commons during parent-teacher conferences and throughout November in recognition of Native American Heritage Month. Community members are encouraged to browse and check out books to read and share.

Part of this project includes highlighted books chosen by the students at Royal Valley. Stay tuned this November to learn more!
