During halftime of the football game against Nemaha Central on Friday, October 17th, the Royal Valley community came together to support Daniel Childress, a Nemaha Central senior recently diagnosed with brain cancer. The community held two fundraisers to raise money for Daniel and his family.
The first fundraiser was a “Pie in the Face” contest featuring several staff members: Superintendent Aaric Davis, RVMS School Counselor Laura Douglas, RVHS Assistant Principal Cale Green, and RVES Assistant Principal Elizabeth VanHoutan. Community members could vote for their favorite staff member to get pied by donating to jars located in each school building or via Venmo.
The second fundraiser was a Bake Sale, organized by Katie Glatczak and Joan Pahmahmie. A huge thank-you goes to everyone who donated baked goods to sell at the game!
During halftime, Daniel got to pie two RV staff members: Katie Glatczak, Royal Valley volleyball coach and sister of the Nemaha Central football coach, and Elizabeth VanHoutan, Elementary School Assistant Principal, who earned the most votes in the Pie in the Face fundraiser.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, the fundraisers raised over $4,000 to support Daniel and his family!
A special thank-you to Janeil Stevens, Katie Glatczak, and Joan Pahmahmie for organizing these events and helping make such a meaningful impact.
