On Wednesday, October 25th, KAY Club held an assembly for 7-12th grade students in the RVHS gym to listen to the guest speaker, Damon Parker, share his story. After sharing his story, Damon ended his presentation by sharing three critical steps with the students and staff:
#1: Understand that YOU ARE NOT ALONE in the way that you are feeling.
#2: Understand that YOU ARE NOT ALONE in the fight.
#3 Know, for a fact, that THERE IS HOPE, but... you have to be willing to put in the work!
Coach Parker created a website for Royal Valley students to go to, if they are struggling and need resources to help: https://qrco.de/bgMbVh
During the past summer, some KAY members went to camp where they originally heard Coach Parker's story and felt that more people should hear it. They reached out to him and he kindly came to our school to help educate the students about mental health.
President of KAY Club, Nalanie Kesler, said, "I feel that it was important for everyone to hear and know that they are not alone in there struggles. By sharing his story, he can influence others to get better."
