On Saturday, March 9, the Varsity Girls played in the Championship game in the 3A State tournament in Hutchinson against Cheney. The girls fought hard for this win, and it was a very proud win for the Royal Valley community. The ending score of the championship game was 55-52 in overtime. Mahpiya Irving, Wakiyan Irving, and Kiikto Thomas each had 3 steals. The team made 80% of their free throws.
Head Coach, Kyle Porter stated, “I’m just so excited for our girls, our school, our kids, and our community. This is a championship that not only impacts the players that played, but also the fans that supported, the pride in our school and just our community in general. This is for all the individuals that have supported Royal Valley athletics and it’s so special to bring a State Championship home to Royal Valley. It’s been really fun to enjoy talking about the experience and celebrating the success of our young women.”
