Ten students in 7th and 8th grade that are taking the National History Day elective class, at Royal Valley Middle School, are helping to prepare for their annual Veterans Day Breakfast and Assembly. One of the projects they are currently working on is "Touching History." These students are asking for help from citizens of Jackson County and the surrounding areas if they would be willing to share their letters that Veteran soldiers wrote to family and friends during their tour of duty from World War I to the present. Students are not asking for the originals just copies of the originals. If possible they would also like a copy of a picture of the Veteran, with the Veteran's first and last name, to accompany the letter. These history students plan to put together a display for all to see and read, the day of their annual Veterans Day Breakfast and Assembly, which will be held on Friday, November 15th, beginning at 8:30am. All Veterans in the Jackson County area and family members of the students that are Veterans or currently serving our country are invited to attend this breakfast being held in their honor. If you are interested or know someone that would be interested in attending this event, please call the school at 785-966-2251, the students would like to be sure to honor all in attendance with a small token of appreciation for their service. If you have a letter and picture you would like to share at this assembly please send the copy of each to Royal Valley Middle School, Attn: Laura DelToro, 204 S. 4th Street, Mayetta, KS. 66509. We thank you in advance for your help with this "Touching History" project and Veterans Day event.
