8th Grade Local History

by Nathan McAlister

February 08, 2012

A group of eight grade students are in their second year of a local history project.  This project involves two very famous brothers from Jackson County, Virgil and Jesse Barnes.  These two brothers were both professional baseball pitchers from the Circleville area.

These students wrote legislation to rename a portion of highway 79, the Barnes Brothers Memorial Highway.  The students have been to the Circleville city council to obtain their blessing before proceeding.

The students would like to thank Representative Trent LeDoux for introducing their legislation, House Bill 2612, to the Kansas House on February 2nd.  They are ready for the next step in this historical journey, testimony.
