RVHS Performs Winter Concert

 Story image 1_0

Royal Valley High School musicians presented their winter concert Wednesday night. The drumline began the evening with "A Mad Russian's Christmas" by O'Neill, Kinkel & Tchaikorsky. The concert band followed with "Bobsled Run" by Lloyd Conley, "Dance of the Slippery Slide Trombones" by David Shaffer and "Christmas Can-Can" by Larry Neeck. The "Dance of the Slippery Slide Trombones" was a take off from the "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies."

The Soundsations entered the gym by candlelight as they sang "Personent Hodie-Piae Cantiones," arranged by John Rutter, in Latin. They followed that with "White Winter Hymnal" arranged by Allison Clements who is a senior at RVHS. Their last song "All I Want for Christmas Is You," by Mariah Carey, featured Caroline Hanson.

The concert choir sang "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" by Eddie Pola & George Wyle, "When Christmas Comes to Town" from Polar Express by Glen Ballard & Alan Silvestri and "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" by Dr. Seuss & Albert Hague featuring a solo by Ivan Torkelson. No Grinch song is complete without an appearance by the mean, green monster himself! Levi Parrett played the Grinch and harassed the crowd during his song!

The Soundsations joined the concert choir for "Issay, Issay!" which is a traditional Ethiopian Christmas song arranged by Philip Kern.

The grand finale brought all musicians back to the front. The band played four Christmas songs while the concert choir and Soundsations led the crowd in a sing-a-long. The four songs were "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town," "Silver Bells," "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer" ad "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
