The RVMS Cheerleaders along with many other RVMS Staff, parents,

and community members are hosting a Community Cancer

Awareness Night on Wednesday, January 31st, from

5:30 - 8pm at the Royal Valley Middle School.  The evening will be

full of special events for the Royal Valley Community to participate in.

Doors open at 5:30pm and all attending receive a Cancer Awareness

Passport.   Community members may spend time exploring the

various healthcare, cancer information, or demonstration tables as

well as taking part in the soup supper that will feature both chili and

vegetable soups, coffee, tea, or water and pudding or jello for

dessert. A FREE WILL donation will be taken for the supper.

Community members will give their testimony of HOPE beginning

at 6pm to help us begin the evening.  There will also be a Zumba

demonstrations performed by the RVMS Cheerleaders with

opportunity for community members to join in the fun and

excitement!  Other activities throughout the evening will be a raffle

for a beautiful, handmade quilt, created by the RVMS Cheer Team

and other RVMS staff members.  The winner of the quilt raffle will

be announced that evening at 7:55pm, you do not have to be

present to win.  Luminaires can be purchased that evening to

honor those family members or friends whose lives have been

touched by cancer.  These luminaries will line the commons

area of the RMVS the night of our Cancer Awareness Boys

Basketball Game on Monday, February 5th.   Chemo Care

Packages can also be put together that evening by community

members.  Once the care packages have been made you

can take the package with you to give to someone you know that is

currently battling cancer, or the RVMS Cheerleaders will be taking these to Stormont-Vail Cancer Center sometime during the

month of February.

Diagnostic Imaging Centers, P.A. will also be available from 1pm until the conclusion of the evening at 8pm, conducting

mammograms.  The mobile mammography unit will be located in the middle school’s north parking lot.  For more information or

to make an appointment please phone 816-444-9989 or 913-344-9989.  Early Detection Works will also be providing FREE

mammograms to qualifying individuals, please call 785-832-1701 to find out more.

Testimonies of Hope will be given by three Jackson County Community members: Barbara Bausch, Gordon Hainey, and Sharon

Bosse.  Jackson County community members that are cancer survivors will be honored with a special gift that evening.

All proceeds from this event will be going to the American Cancer Society.  Last year $800 was raised and over 40 care packages (valued at $1000) were donated to Stormont-Vail Cancer Center; this was only  possible because of so many students, staff, and community members working together for a common goal.  This year, we are asking if you would once again come together and help us reach our goal of collecting and donating $1,000 to this organization and let’s join together and donate 50 care packages or more to Stormont-Vail Cancer Center!

We are all looking forward to this 2nd Annual Community Cancer Awareness Night and are excited in partnering with everyone helping to make this possible, as well as your attendance of this event!!   We will see you on Wednesday, January 31st starting at 5:30pm!
