RV Receives EPA Grant for School Bus
Saturday, September 9, the Royal Valley bus that was taken out of service was used for training at the Hoyt Fire Department. First responders practiced getting victims out ot the bus in a stimulated accident. After the training, Royal Valley took the bus to Topeka where it was destroyed. This was part of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grant that Royal Valley received to improve the bus fleet. "Royal Valley received $20,000 from the EPA toward the purchase of a new bus. In return the old bus could not be sold; it had to be destroyed," explained Mike Henry, transportation maintenance supervisor.
The point of the EPA grant is to remove school buses that have high emissions and replace them with lower-emission buses.
