The fifth and sixth grade classes have had a busy month in the computer lab. Both grade levels have been finding facts about Kansas.
Each student had three links to WebPages loaded into their Kan-ed- my classes folder. The object was for them to find five Kansas Symbols and distort the image using this website, http://www.phixr.com/. The students then created two different pages in PowerPoint, one page with the distorted images to have the class guess what the images were. The second page had the original images and a prompt to name two more Symbols. The sixth grade had one additional page with a Kansas fact or bit of trivia with an image to go along with their fact or trivia. The last piece to this page was to add a hyperlink to MapQuest directions on how to get to the place in Kansas where their fact or trivia was located.
Mrs. Cronk's fifth grade class had the opportunity to use the iPads in a little friendly competition. I created a math quiz in a QR code website. The class decided to split into girl and boy teams one person on each team was in charge of scanning the QR codes to obtain the questions and the rest of the team worked out the problem. The first team to have scanned and answered the 5 questions correctly won! The student LOVED this activity. I then had each student in the class go to the website and create their own 5-question math quiz so we can do this activity again and again. Technology is such a great way to engage and excite students. I love to see their faces when these activities and project come together for them and they say "we really liked this!" Life is good and I love my job!
