January 23, 2012
RVES Students like last year made Valentine Cards for the soldiers that are on Active Duty. They students and computer lab teacher Mrs. Williams and Therapy dog Tux had two goals for this project. Goal one was to make a total of 500 cards and Goal two was to make this an annual event. The national organization called Soldiers Angels is in charge of this world-wide project.
This Friday the cards will be given to a contact person and the mailing process will begin January 28th to assure the soldiers will receive the cards by Valentines Day. Each grade created a card based on their ability:
Kindergartners- Used the crayola tools on the computer to stamp their cards
First Graders- Used an interactive online color page to create their cards
Second Graders- Used Tux's Paint on the school website (downloadable graphics program)
Third and Fourth Graders- Created two different cards--a counterfold card (PowerPoint) and a fan fold pop out card
First grader Nathan said what he liked most about making Valentine cards for the soldiers was, "I liked to paint."
First grader Kaylie added, "I liked to make the big bouquet of roses!"
