Katie Petesch Takes Over As Food Service Director

by Josh Barger

March 04, 2010

In the first week of February, John Williams stepped down resigning his position as Food Service Director for the Royal Valley District. Katie Petesch was approved by the Board of Education to replace him for the remainder of the year.

One of the first things she did was to survey the members of the Nutrition Advisory Council, or NAC, which is a student club at the high school that the Food Service Director uses to get student feedback on the menu. At her first NAC meeting as Food Service Director, Petesch surveyed the members by giving them a list of about 40 items and having them select their favorites. The top 30 items that were voted for will be used in a 6-week rotation so the menu will repeat every 6 weeks. At the next meeting on March 23rd she will have lots of samples for the members to taste of upcoming menu items. Just a few of the samples she'll have are Chicken Alfredo and BBQ Beef.

When I interviewed Katie about her new job as Food Service director, she said she has really been enjoying this first month at her new job and that it's been exciting planning menus and everything. She also said that it's been very challenging managing everything since she kept her previous jobs within the district.

"I'm enjoying the position and hope in the future we can have more nutritional meals, commented Petesch. "And I hope kids enjoy the meals next year," she added.

Since the board of education only approved Katie to be Food Service Director for the remainder of this school year, she informed me she plans on applying for the position again next year.
