League Changes

by Chelsea Houghtaling

December 16, 2009

There are changes in high school sports scenes being made at the beginning of Fall 2010. ACCHS and Maur Hill Mount Accadamy will be leaving the Big 7 League to join the Delaware Valley League while Perry Lecompton and Santa Fe Trail will be leaving the Kaw Valley League to join the Big 7 League. Several changes will be made concerning high school games and the way they will be scheduled.

Volleyball starting next year will be played as a double dual. This means that there will only be two teams competing in one night and 2 different courts. The order of the games will be varsity, jv, varsity on court one and jv, freshman, freshman on court two. Warm up times will remain the same with maybe a 5 min break in between back to back games. The only exception to this will be the off league matches against Wamego and Rock Creek which will be kept the same for convenience. The number of tournaments will also be kept the same with 4.

Varsity football will stay the same, however there will no longer be any freshman games on Thursday nights. Instead both jv and freshman teams will play on Monday nights.

All basketball games will be played as 6 game nights starting with freshman, jv, and then varsity. Freshman teams will not have a tournament and play 17 games during the season. Jv will play in one tournament and play 19 games during the season. Varsity will still host the Panther Classic and play 20 games during the season not including sub-state.

Changes for the middle school have already been made and applied to this season. The only change that will be made next year are the number of sets during the A team volleyball matches. They will now play best 3 out of 5 sets while B teams stay the same with best 2 out of 3 at one location.

"These changes will save money because we will only have to take one bus to each game," added Mr. Gustin.
