Temple Is Back!

Miss Temple, the RVHS Spanish teacher, is back from Valencia, Spain. She went there to teach English and wanted to improve her Spanish.
"Living in a pretty city with history and culture was the best part!" Miss Temple stated. Also being there while Spain won the World Cup was pretty awesome too, she noted. There were people all about the streets dancing and singing everywhere you could see.
There were some tough things to do, though, like rent an apartment, get a bank account, and be good at her job. All of this had to be done with Temple speaking in Spanish. She also had to stand the cold because they had no heating during the winter. Dealing with the cold was not very fun!
Going there she knew no one. She had to make friends and meet people all on her own. Luckily for her, the group she was in had Americans and Europeans who could speak English. There were more people from Europe, though, mainly Britains. She did meet some Spanish people just mainly people who could speak English. She kind of regretted not meeting as many Spaniards.
Miss Temple really liked all the places she visited. Places she saw include:
- Morocco- top of Africa
- Coast of France
- Italy twice
- a lot of famous Spanish cities
She really wished she had done more traveling. She wanted/wants to go to Northern Spain, Portugal, and Italy again.
Most of the time Miss Temple was there she had to speak Spanish except when she was talking to her friends. She said it was easy to speak Spanish but she got a couple words wrong and didn't know some words that someone else said here and there. If someone didn't quite understand what she said, they might have said "No comprendo" or I don't understand. Then she would have to reword and try again.
She honestly didn't like teaching English to her students. It was a little difficult to know where to start and just how to do it.
She said, "Listening to my students speak English was fun!"
Anywhere you go you have to eat, but here is a list of the things she ate that are different that what we eat in Kansas:
- Olives and potato chips- appetizer before every meal
- Ham- that was salty and smoked (tasted different and was hard to explain)
- a lot of Sea food- Sardines on Bread
- Rabbit meat- "Was good but a little boney and kind of tasted like chicken"
- the Typical dish was- rice, vegetables, and rabbit meat
Over all she said she had a great and fun time. She is glad to be back with family but if she could she would stay in Spain as long as she could bring all her friends and family, too. She doesn't want to miss things back here at home, though, like students getting older, last year's graduation, and many more to come. So, for now I think she's sticking around!
