Lane Freedom Trail Signed into Law

Updated Information!

July 06, 2010

Governor Mark Parkinson signed the Lane Freedom Trail Bill on Monday, May 24, turning months of work done by Mr. McAlister and the seventh graders into a huge success!

"Now we need to raise $3320 to get the signs up!" said McAlister, seen here with a plastic rendition of what the future signs will look like on Highway 75. The plan is to have the money raised and the signs in place by Kansas Day in January. This Kansas Day, January 29, 2011, will mark the state's sesquicentennial anniversary.

So far (July 6) the group has raised $1,185 for the signs! They only need $2,145 more!

"We received our first donation from a former Holton resident who now lives in Virginia!" McAlister added.

All donations for the Lane Freedom Trail signs can be sent to the Jackson County Community Foundation c/o The Lane freedom Trail and these donations can be mailed or taken to any Denison State Bank Location. This makes it possible for all donations to be tax deductible.

Mr. McAlister and the seventh graders would like to thank Representative Rocky Fund for all his efforts in getting this bill passed.
